Rules

Version 0.1.3 – Last updated Dec 18 2020.

Objective

The objective is to have the most points at the end of the game. Players earn points by invoking their Rituals and by storing cards on their Prophecies.

The game ends after the deck of cards has been emptied a certain number of times.

Setup

Sort the mastery cards into three piles, grouped by type.

Shuffle together the main deck of cards and place it in the play area.

Sort the prophecy cards into three piles based on their backs: Start, Middle, and End. Shuffle each pile individually.

Player Setup

Take one of each type of mastery card: Blood Magic, Demonology, and Necromancy.

Randomly place your mastery cards in a row in front of you. Flip them to the side with the four sections to track your mastery level. Rotate the card so you start at level 0.

Shuffle the rest of the cards together to form the deck. Place it in the center of the player area.

Each player draws 5 cards from the deck.

Round Sequence

Starting with the first player, chosen randomly, and continuing clock wise, each player takes their turn.

Turn Sequence

Your 1st and 2nd turns have an extra step, detailed below.

Starting Phase

From left to right, read through your Altars and your Prophecies. You may activate any Start of Turn effects on your cards. Do the same with any Boons or Curses in your play area. Curses with Start of Turn effects must be activated.

Main Phase

On your turn you may take 2 actions, detailed below. You may take an action more than once, and my take them in any order.

Play a Card From Hand

Discard the played card
Note: You may only play one Mastery card a turn

Perform a Faceup Card’s Action
Cards in your play area, such as Boons and Masteries, might give you additional Actions you can perform.

Draw a Card
Draw a card from the top of the deck.

Prophecize
Draw two Prophecies and put one into play. Discard the other.
Note: You can have a maximum of 3 Prophecies in play at once.

Ending Phase

From left to right, read through your Altars and your Prophecies. You may activate any End of Turn effects on your cards. Do the same with any Boons or Curses in your play area. Curses with End of Turn effects must be activated.

Cleanup Phase

Ready any exhausted cards you control.

Draw a card from the deck.

Prophecies

Completing a Prophecy
When you have stored enough cards on a Prophecy to complete it, discard the stored cards under it and set the Prophecy aside. It will be scored at the end of the game.

Empty Deck

If the main deck is ever out of cards, shuffle the discard pile to form a new deck.

If the deck needs to be reformed while performing an action, such as discarding multiple cards from the top, reform the deck and continue the action.

Ending the Game

The final round of the game is triggered after the deck has been emptied a certain number of times, listed below. When this happens, finish out the round. This is so each player has the same number of turns throughout the game.

Two Player Game: twice
Three Player Game: three times

Determining the Winner

Each player counts up their total score. The player with the most points is the winner.

Total Mastery Level: You get points equal to your mastery level
Completed Mastery: Each mastery that is completed is worth 1 point
Prophecies: Your prophecies award different point values based on the number of stored cards.
